{"id":356,"date":"2007-06-13T09:22:20","date_gmt":"2007-06-13T16:22:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.red-sweater.com\/blog\/356\/safari-for-windows"},"modified":"2007-06-14T12:39:03","modified_gmt":"2007-06-14T19:39:03","slug":"safari-for-windows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redsweater.com\/blog\/356\/safari-for-windows","title":{"rendered":"Safari For Windows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just to prove that I&#8217;m not cranky about <em>everything<\/em> that came out of the keynote on Monday, I&#8217;d like to say that I&#8217;m <em>very excited<\/em> about the release of Safari for Windows!<\/p>\n<p>\nI think Safari is a very serious contender in these new browser wars. It will be interesting to see whether they take more market share from FireFox or IE. My first thoughts? Safari wins.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nMy only real misgiving about this is the decision to use Apple&#8217;s font-smoothing techniques in Safari on Windows. Joel Spolsky wrote about the differences in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joelonsoftware.com\/items\/2007\/06\/12.html\">great detail<\/a>, and I&#8217;m not entirely convinced that I don&#8217;t prefer the Windows smoothing for its legibility. I am certainly convinced that if I like my Mac&#8217;s smoothing better, it&#8217;s probably mostly out of familiarity, and not a proof that the technology is better.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIt seems a bit crude to push an alien font-smoothing technique on a massive pool of new customers.
