MarsEdit 2.1.3
April 3rd, 2008MarsEdit 2.1.3 is now available for direct download or update from within the app. This release is a potpourri of little fixes, including one that makes MarsEdit more reliable in preserving the “draft” status of posts from WordPress and Blogger.
- Fix detection of draft posts from WordPress 2.5 and Blogger.
- Added support for the #tags# placeholder in preview template
- Fix console errors when refreshing with main window closed
- Improve handling of localhost-based blog URLs.
- Markup item placeholder #askurl# now defaults to “Enter a URL:” instead of “Enter Text:”
- Avoid escaping characters in URLs pasted or entered in dialog.
- Fix a bug involving UI display for Blosxom-based weblog settings.
Please let me know if you run into any problems!

Keep rolling the nice stuff, Daniel.
And here’s a feature I wish for (probably off-topic): how about a way to enter images by inserting the image URL in a pop-up dialog that let’s you select alignment options (right, left, etc) and have the code automatically generated?
Kinda like what WordPress writing interface does (as well as most of the web blog/CM systems)?
(MarsEdit could even try to fetch the image denoted by the URL, and insert the appropriate width and height).
Just my $0.02 (actually €0.02, which is more like $0.031 -surely this merits more attention to my request ;-)

Hi bananaranha – good idea – the main thing I am careful to try to avoid is cluttering up the dialogs too much. I agree this would be useful stuff, but wouldn’t want to put them in all the URL dialogs. But perhaps a specialized “#askimg#” URL would be appropriate, to make it easier to paste in existing image URLs, and specify all the details as you suggest.

Looks like a great update! Keep up the great work, and give WP folks another punch in the nose about the more issue we’ve talked about.

I just saw a great update today in the WordPress bug system about that “more” issue… looks like they’re still cranking away at it :)

I was very impressed with the seamlessness and ease of performing this update! Are you using Sparkle for this? Inquiring minds want to know :-)

Hi Joely – indeed it is a ever-so-slightly modified Sparkle. Thanks – I’m glad you found the update went smoothly!

Hey, maybe I’m not seeing it, but when I add an image I don’t see a way to align it like when I post on wordpress.

Chris: just to the left of the “Insert” button in the Media Manager window, you’ll see a popup menu with some alignment choices.
These are pretty limited right now, but I’m working on making them user-customizable so they can be fine-tuned. Hopefully it won’t be too long before an update with this change is available.

Hey, I’m a happy MarsEdit and SmugMug user but since no integration between the two exists I decided to write my own. It’s available at http://code.google.com/p/smugndrag/. You can follow updates at http://bzimmer.ziclix.com/tag/smugndrag/.
