Black Ink 1.1.3

December 4th, 2008

I’m happy to announce Black Ink 1.1.3, our premium crossword solving application, is now available for download or automatic update.

We recently lost a puzzle source, the Little Rock Daily Record, which has stopped publishing its puzzle. But the good news is we picked up a few excellent new sources to balance out the loss.

The update also includes a few minor bugs. Full details:

  • New puzzle sources:
    • Chicago Reader
    • Onion AV Club
    • Chronicle of Higher Education
  • Remove Little Rock Daily Record – no longer published
  • Bug fixes
    • Fix a problem with opening the wrong puzzle source when a source is disabled
    • Fix an issue printing puzzles of unusual dimensions

Enjoy!

Thanks for this Daniel. I wanted to say thanks also for how _fast_ Black Ink opens. I launched it out of Spotlight a moment ago and it opened almost instantly, with a notification from Sparkle (I’m assuming) that there was an update appearing at the same time as the puzzle chooser. It’s pleasant to have software available that does one thing really, really well — thanks for the effort in making the experience pleasant.

Thanks, Ethan! I’m glad you appreciate it.

Coincidentally, I’m not particularly proud of the situation you describe where the puzzle chooser and the “update” window appear at the same time. I would like to fix it so that the update window appears before the puzzle chooser, or vice versa.

It’s preferable to the situation where I start using a program and focus is stolen by the update window, especially as I’m still not a touch-typist (the horror!). But sweating the small details is what separates the great programs and their developers from the good ones.
