FastScripts 3.3.8: Improved Arrow Key Navigation

September 3rd, 2025

FastScripts 3.3.8 is now available on the FastScripts home page, or by selecting “Check for Update” from the FastScripts menu.

This update includes fixes for a few vexing bugs, particularly with respect to using arrow keys to navigate the menu. Many FatsScripts users interact with the menu primarily via the system-wide keyboard shortcut, and recently some issues arose that prevented the right arrow key, for example, from descending into submenus. I’ve also taken the opportunity improve the behavior of the up and down arrow keys for leaving and returning to the search field.

This update also includes refinements to the appearance of the menu’s search field, both on current shipping macOS 15 Macs, and on the forthcoming macOS 26 “Tahoe” system update. The aim here is to have the search field match the appearance of Apple’s Help Menu search field, which it now does much more faithfully!

Here is the complete list of changes for this release:

  • Improve menu navigability with arrow keys

  • Adapt layout of menu search field to more closely match the style of Apple’s Help menu

  • Fix a bug that prevented scripts invoked “with parameters” from showing progress in the menu

  • Fix a bug that could cause FastScripts to crash when an invoked script crashed

  • Avoid a momentary flash of the FastScripts menu at launch time

If you enjoy FastScripts, please consider spreading the word to your scripting friends. Thanks!
