Core Intuition
May 30th, 2008I’m happy to announce a new podcast which you’ll hopefully consider adding to your iTunes subscription lineup: Core Intuition.
The show features my friend Manton Reece of Riverfold Software, makers of Wii Transfer, and myself. What is the podcast about? We’re still figuring that out, but we’re roughly aiming to be an entertaining discussion-based podcast covering issues of interest to indie Mac developers, and people who are interested in the lives and thoughts of said developers. In other words, people like you!
The first issue covers topics ranging from WWDC to reflections on the Apple Store, and Apple’s NDA policies. We’ll see how it evolves. In the meantime, wouldn’t you be proud to count yourself among our very first listeners?

Great podcast! I look forward to finding out what the next podcast’s about, and I guess you do too ;-). Regarding the discussion of version updates and stability; I completely agree. If you’ve got a stable version where all the features work and no other features are required, what’s the point of updating? Either you change the About window (and annoy the people who have to download the ‘update’) and nothing else, or you end up with feaping creeturitis just to make it look like the app’s still live.
Obviously in my field (security) that’s not much of a problem, we update the detection technology frequently enough that even without adding features or fixing bugs we have a fast turnaround of versions.
Wow, a new Mac dev podcast and I picked up Hillegass mk. III today – this is the most Cocoa-ey day I’ve had since, um, Wednesday! :-D

Excellent, more Mac developer podcasts to listen to! If only I wouldn’t blow away the contents of my Shuffle by plugging it into my work machine so I could listen on the drive home, I’d check it out now (Shuffle’s synced with home machine, and plugging it into another wipes all the music from it). Gotta wait a few hours, still!

Excellent first show! I really enjoyed it. The length was good, and breaking it up into segments gave me a couple of convenient places to pause it.
I recently just ran into a couple of the issues that you spoke about. VersionTracker crawled my release notes while I was posting new content, so the first 20 or so downloads of my latest update got the old version. Does anyone know if they respect robots.txt files? I’ll go through the hassle of banning their bots, but I’d prefer not to unless I know the time spent on it is going to pay off.
I also just released my first update to a particular piece of software in almost eight months. While I didn’t get any questions about when the update was coming, it’s definitely hurt my sales as I fell so far down the search results on Apple, VT and MU. I ended up cutting several features which make the app much better if favor of shipping it this century. It’s certainly an easy trap to fall into.
Looking forward to hearing more from you folks.

Good show. There are certainly more Mac ISV podcasts out in recent months, and I say the more the merrier.
You’re dead-on about the lack of ADC-managed, NDA-ok’d forum. Every year I suggest they create a developer-only discussion forum that mirrors (or replaces) the listservs. I find forums a much better discussion model, and access can (to a reasonable extent) be managed. The Apple folks I suggest this to typically look at me like I have three heads.
I do hope there are feedback forums this year; they’re my favorites of the week. Maybe they got tired of being told how awful the translucent menu bar was…
Oh, and thanks for not violating my pet peeve about podcasts – music that’s twice the volume of the talent. Nice quiet ditty, just right. And overall great audio quality for a first podcast.

Makes me wish I still had a work commute. Somehow whenever I start listening to a podcast at home, my attention always gets pulled back to the computer.

This is great news!
You guys sound so professional. Are you sure this is the first time you’ve done this? :)
